This article will detail the metrics within the Vaccination Support: Shingles: Patients possibly eligible for two doses of Shingrix

This cabinet is available to our Best Practice software integration customers.

The Vaccination Support: Shingles vaccine cabinet contains metrics to support your practice to deliver the Shingles vaccination in your practice to your patients.

To navigate to this cabinet go to Clinic Optimisation > Vaccination Support > Shingles: Patients possibly eligible for two doses of Shingrix

The sections included in this article are:

  1. Patient eligibility

    1. Patient eligibility

Use these metrics to help you identify the patients at the clinic who are possibly eligible to receive a Shingrix Shingles vaccination.

TOP TIP! Read the Department of Health & Aged Care information on Shingles vaccine and NIP eligibility here.

Find the Australian Immunisation Handbook recommendations on Zoster (Shingles) vaccine here.

To help practices identify eligible patients more easily, Cubiko takes an inclusive approach by considering a broad range of conditions. However, this is simply a screening tool - your clinical judgment and proper patient assessment are essential in determining final eligibility for NIP funded or Privately funded vaccination options.

The Australian Immunisation Handbook recommends shingles vaccination for specific groups including:
    • people ages 50 years and over
    • immunocompromised people aged 18 years and over
    • people aged 50 years and over who live in the same household as someone who has a weakened immune system.

According to the Department of Health & Aged Care, free shingles vaccination under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) is available for eligible people most at risk of complications from shingles.

A 2-dose course of Shingrix is available for free for:

    • People aged 65 years and over
    • First Nations people aged 50 years and over
      • haematopoietic stem cell transplant
      • immunocompromised people aged 18 years and over with the following medical conditions:
      • solid organ transplant
      • haematological malignancy
      • advanced or untreated HIV.
Cubiko identifies all patients who are potentially immunocompromised with a wide range of medical conditions, including conditions outside the four specified in NIP eligibility.

Please always consult a practitioner to determine if the patient is eligible for the NIP or any vaccinations.

Patients possibly eligible for Shingrix Shingles vaccine

This table provides a list of patients who are potentially eligible for the Shingrix Shingles vaccine.

    Filter patients by dose status

Use the drop-down filter on the right-hand side of the table to refine the list by dose status:

    • No doses - Patients who have not yet received a dose of Shingrix
    • One dose - Patients who have started the course and may be due for their second dose
    • All patients - All patients currently identified as eligible

Identifying patients who may need a second dose

To quickly identify which patients have received their first dose and may require their second dose, apply the "One dose" filter.
This will display patients who may require a follow-up or recall for their second dose.

When identifying patients who may be due for their second Shingrix dose, it’s important to also review when the first dose was administered.

The table includes a “Date of last Shingrix” column, which you can sort or filter by date to help prioritise patients who are within the recommended dosing window.

Patients who received a single dose well outside the recommended timeframe (for example, one dose several years ago) may not be appropriate for immediate recall and should be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by your clinical team.

TOP TIP! Use our age bracket and ethnicity filter to focus on patients you want to recall as a higher priority, such as those eligible for a 2-dose course under the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

These include your patients aged 65 years and over and First Nations people aged 50 years and over.
