Vaccination support: RSV Vaccine

This article will detail the metrics within the Vaccination Support: RSV vaccine cabinet

This cabinet is available to our Best Practice software integration customers.

The Vaccination Support: RSV vaccine cabinet contains metrics to support your practice to identify patients who may be eligible for RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccination, making it easier to reach out proactively and have vaccination conversations on the spot.

To navigate to this cabinet go to Clinic Optimisation > Vaccination Support > RSV: Patients possibly eligible for RSV vaccine

RSV Vaccine Cabinet

The sections included in this article are:

  1. Patient eligibility
  2. List of patients possibly eligible for RSV vaccine
  3. Filters
  4. Possible Service Opportunities Today

    1. Patient eligibility

Use these metrics to get a quick snapshot of your eligible patient cohort and how many have already been vaccinated.

    NIP-eligible patients include:

    • Adults aged 75 years and over
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults aged 60 years and over
    • Pregnant women between 28 and 36 weeks gestation

TOP TIP! Read the Department of Health & Aged Care information on RSV vaccine and NIP eligibility here.

The number of patients who are possibly eligible for an RSV vaccination.

By default, this counts only NIP-eligible patients. Toggle Include privately funded recommended (aged 60–74) in the filter panel to also include the 60–74 privately funded recommended cohort.

Adults are excluded if they have had an RSV vaccine in the past 2 years. Pregnant patients are only excluded if they have received an RSV vaccine during the current pregnancy.

TOP TIP! Use this number at the start of your vaccination outreach campaign to understand the size of your eligible cohort. Pair this with the List of patients possibly eligible for RSV vaccine table below to export and action your patient list.

Patients who have received an RSV vaccine in the past 2 years

The number of active patients who have had an RSV vaccine (Abrysvo, Arexvy, or a generic RSV vaccination) recorded in the past 2 years.

Arexvy and Abrysvo protection lasts approximately 2 RSV seasons, so these patients are excluded from the eligibility list above.

TOP TIP! If this number is 0 or unexpectedly low, it may indicate that RSV vaccinations have been administered but not recorded correctly in your Practice Management Software under one of the recognised vaccine names (Abrysvo, Arexvy, or RSV). Check with your clinical team that vaccinations are being recorded consistently.

    2. List of patients possibly eligible for RSV vaccine

This table provides a list of patients who are potentially eligible for the RSV vaccine.

The table includes the following columns:

    • Internal ID — the patient's internal record identifier
    • Record no. — the patient's record number in Best Practice
    • Patient — patient name, age, and usual location
    • Age — patient age in years
    • RSV eligibility — the reason the patient is identified as eligible (e.g. NIP eligible: 75+, NIP eligible: ATSI 60+)
    • Ethnicity — whether the patient identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
    • Date of last RSV vaccine — the date of the most recent RSV vaccination recorded, or None recorded if no previous vaccination is on file

TOP TIP! Use the RSV eligibility column to prioritise your outreach — focus on NIP-eligible patients first (aged 75+, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults aged 60+) before reaching out to the privately funded cohort. Toggle Include privately funded recommended (aged 60–74) on or off to manage these groups separately.

    3. Filters

Use the filter panel on the left-hand side of the page to refine your results.

Include privately funded recommended (aged 60–74)

Toggle this on to expand the eligible patient count to also include adults aged 60 to 74 who are not already NIP-eligible. By default, this is turned off and only NIP-eligible patients are shown.

     RACGP active patients

Toggle this on to limit results to patients who meet the RACGP definition of an active patient — 3 or more visits in the past 2 years.

TOP TIP! Using the RACGP active patients toggle can help you focus your outreach on patients who are actively attending the practice, giving you a more actionable recall list.

    4. Possible Service Opportunities Today

RSV vaccine eligibility is also available within Possible Service Opportunities Today, helping your team identify patients attending the practice today who may benefit from an RSV vaccination.

This supports opportunistic vaccination conversations throughout the day — your reception or nursing team can use this to flag eligible patients at the point of check-in or during their appointment.

TOP TIP! Encourage your front desk and nursing team to check Possible Service Opportunities Today at the start of each day during RSV season to make the most of every patient visit.
