QIM: Proportion of patients with Ethnicity recorded

Track the percentage of patients with ethnicity recorded in the last quarter. Use key metrics to help you set, track, measure and action your practice goal!

Cubiko's Quality Improvement cabinet provides a tool for your practice team to use to participate in and complete Quality Improvement activities that are specific to your practice.  Our Quality Improvement metrics will allow you to review areas in your practice that may need improvement.

To navigate to this metric, go to Clinic Optimisation > Quality Improvement > Patient impact

TOP TIP! Quality Improvement activities assist practices with their Accreditation and PIP QI requirements.

The sections included in this article are:

Goal

Use this overview to understand if your goal is achievable.

Completion rate of patients with Ethnicity recorded

The main percentage figure on the left represents the proportion of active patients that have ethnicity recorded in their patient demographics.

 Here you will also see:

  • The total number of active patients in your practice who have ethnicity recorded
  • The number of those patients missing ethnicity that are coming into the practice today whose records could be updated
  • The current practice goal and the number of patients needed to record ethnicity to reach your practice goal
  • The progress line and total percentage to see your progress toward the goal

TOP TIP! Update your practice goal in Settings > Advanced > QI Goals.

The goals that you set here will be shown in the metrics after the next overnight extraction.

Measure

Are you on track to reach your goals?

Use this metric to track how you have progressed with recording your patient's ethnicity at the beginning of the current PIP quarter, your current PIP quarter progress to date, and the trend of your completion progress over time in comparison to your practice goal.

As you reach your achievable goals, you can amend the goal in the Settings area of Cubiko. This data can be used to help study the progress of your Quality Improvement activity and record your Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) cycle.

TOP TIP! Remember to record your targets in a PDSA cycle template and record your actions, how you measured them, and what you plan to do next. A free PDSA template can be downloaded here.

Ethnicity recorded at the start of this PIP quarter

At the start of the current PIP quarter, this measures the proportion of RACGP active patients whose ethnicity is recorded at the start of this PIP quarter. The figures below show the breakdown of that percentage and how they are calculated.

NOTE: PIP Quarters are defined as:

  • 1 November to 31 January
  • 1 February to 30 April
  • 1 May to 31 July
  • 1 August to 31 October

Trend of patients with ethnicity recorded

The trend graph reflects the progress of your patients with ethnicity recorded, and how that compares to the goal set to reach.

Action

Use these patient lists to reach your practice QI goals.

QI: List of patients where no ethnicity is recorded

This table lists the details of all patients who are attending the practice in the next five days who do not have their ethnicity recorded.

TOP TIP! Use the patient lists to help you action and prioritise your patients to help you reach your practice goal.

The admin team may want to use the filters on the table to look ahead at any upcoming appointments and flag or notate on appointment notes, patients that are missing ethnicity to have this updated when they present for their next appointment.
