From 1st July 2025, two new items were added to the MBS to support the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP). Use these metrics to identify patients who may be eligible for referral for these items.
Patients who are non-smokers are excluded from this page.

What is the Lung cancer screening dashboard?
From 1st July 2025, two new items were added to the MBS to support the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP). Use these metrics to identify patients that may be eligible for referral for these items.
Eligibility includes:
- The patient is aged between 50 and 75 years old
- They are an active smoker or have quit smoking in the last 10 years
- They have a smoking history of at least 30 pack-years
- They show no signs or symptoms suggesting they may have lung cancer
Key components and filters
Patients who may be eligible for lung cancer screening
This figure shows what the total number of patients who are an active smoker aged between 50 and 75 years old with a record smoking history equivalent to over 30 pack years. This number may include patients who have already been screened for or diagnosed with lung cancer. Ex-smokers are not included in this count.
Count of patients with a current smoking status
This metric shows the number of patients with a current smoking status recorded.
Smoking history
This table lists patients who are active smokers aged between 50 and 75 years old with a record smoking history equivalent to over 30 pack years. This number may include patients who have already been screened for or diagnosed with lung cancer. Ex-smokers will have pack years calculated from their year started until today.
This table includes the follow columns:
- Internal ID
- Record No
- Patient Name
- Age
- Gender
- Last updated
- Cigerettes per day
- Year started
- Smoking status
- Pack years
Using this metric in your practice
- Use this list to easily Identify eligible patients that meet the critera for the Lung cancer screening test.
- Recall eligible patients for an appointment with their doctor to determine if the patients suitable for a referral to the lung cancer screening program.
- This list may also be used to manage and monitor the recording of all patients with a smoking history. By using the toggle on the side 'Patients aged 50-75 yrs old' you will be able to see the smoking history of patients with an active smoking status, ex smoking status, or those who are unrecorded. Patients who are non smokers are excluded from this page.
Applying filters:
TOP TIP! You can use this filter to identify patients with upcoming appointments over a certain timeframe OR view patients with "No appointment booked".
You can use this fitler to filter this list down by who your new patient has booked their next appointment with. And you can also filter this down by the patients usual doctor or Last seen doctor.
You can filter this down fruther by, ethnicity, MyMedicare registered, RACGP actice patients, inlcude RACF, Include patients under 18 years old and exclude or include upcoming telehealth appointments.
Exporting patient list (and potentially sending a bulk SMS communication):
After applying the filters you wish to set, you can then export this list!
Exporting the list is as easy as pressing the download button, where you can then export it as a CSV or Excel spreadsheet!
